Statement by Michael Allegretti regarding Rep. Charlie Rangel's 13 Counts of Ethics Violations

From Michael Allegretti, the Republican candidate for Congress in the 13th District of New York:

"The situation with Charlie Rangel has turned into a circus, with media reports of constant backroom negotiating to see how Rep. Rangel can best save his career. It should be enough that he's been charged with these 13 violations. Let's set the bar higher here: Charlie Rangel should immediately resign, as it is clear that he has abused his office. Every single member of Congress should call on him to resign. And every single member of Congress must return the dirty money they have received from Rep. Rangel in the form of campaign donations.

"This week, my Democratic opponent Rep. Mike McMahon asked me to put aside campaign politics and support the 9/11 health care bill, which I did, even standing up to some in my own party. Now I ask him to put aside politics and demand that Charlie Rangel resign, and I ask him to do the right thing and return all of the $70,000 of campaign donations he received from Charlie Rangel or donate the money to a charitable or good government cause. This has gone on long enough, and voters are well aware of the insider, good 'ol boys club backroom dealings that are all too common in our Congress today. Let's start to drain the swamp of corruption, once and for all. It's your move, Mr. McMahon."

About Michael: Michael Allegretti is a life-long resident of New York's 13 Congressional District, co-owner of a small business in the community and an active member throughout the district. He is the endorsed candidate of the Staten Island and Brooklyn Republican parties, as well as local elected officials NYS Senators Andrew Lanza and Martin Golden, and NYS Assemblyman Lou Tobacco.
