ALLEGRETTI URGES HOUSE COMMITTEE TO PASS ARMENIAN GENOCIDE RESOLUTION
Staten Island, NY – Life-long district resident and Republican candidate for New York’s Thirteenth Congressional District, Michael Allegretti, is urging the House Foreign Relations Committee to pass H.Res.252, The Armenian Genocide Resolution. The committee is voting on the resolution March 4th in Washington.
Michael remarked, “I urge the members of the House Foreign Relations to stand-up and recognize the genocide which took place between 1915-1923. It is unspeakable that one and a half million Armenians lost their lives in an effort to erase them from their homeland. Passage of this resolution would be a positive step for the region.
Michael continued, “My hope would be for Turkey to normalize relations with Armenia and end its trade blockade of the landlocked country. At the same time it is important for Turkey to come to terms with what its leadership, as the Ottoman Empire, did almost 95 years ago, in order that the region can move on to promote an atmosphere of cooperation between the two countries.”
H.Res.252, introduced in March of 2009 by lead sponsors Adam Schiff (D-CA) and George Radanovich (R-CA), and Congressional Armenian Caucus Co-chairs Frank Pallone (D-NJ) and Mark Kirk (R-IL), currently has over 137 cosponsors. A parallel Senate measure, spearheaded by Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and John Ensign (R-NV), has 13 cosponsors. Efforts to recognize the Armenian Genocide have been welcomed by a broad range of coalition partners from the Greek, Jewish, Christian and genocide-prevention constituencies.
Michael Allegretti is a life-long resident of New York's Thirteenth Congressional district and a co-owner of a small business. His family has owned Bayside Fuel Oil for over 75 years. When not running for Congress Michael works with business leaders and elected officials across the nation to make America energy independent and transition to the 21st century economy.
