About Michael Allegretti
Experience That Matters
Common Sense Business Background
Michael Allegretti has witnessed first-hand the challenges workers and business owners face. A lifelong resident of the 13th Congressional District, he learned early on the power of small business innovation and the jobs it can produce, but also the negative impact from poor government policy. His family’s business, Bayside Fuel Oil, has been a steady presence in New York City for nearly 75 years, navigating the maze of regulations, taxes and challenges that have hindered so many other companies. Early in his career he worked for the investment firm UBS Paine Webber and years later he served as a Director at the Partnership for New York City, New York’s leading business coalition. Today he helps Fortune 500 companies and officials at the local, state and Federal levels of government work together to ensure businesses can prosper while helping to improve the quality of life in their communities.
Deep Understanding of Government
Michael Allegretti is already a powerful voice in Washington. Recently, he has been at the center of the global energy debate, calling for improvements to America’s energy and environmental policies. He believes that the time has come for policymakers to put solutions before politics and finally address how we power our way of life and improve our environment, while simultaneously empowering American innovation, reducing taxes and spending, and growing our economy. He works closely with Governors, Members of Congress and Heads of State to help them realize the economic opportunities associated with taking smart action on our energy needs.
Michael Allegretti knows how to forge innovative partnerships on issues that matter. In 2007, while at the Partnership for New York City, he brought together mayors from over 40 of the world’s most important cities, and CEOs from 15 of the world’s most influential companies, to create a global public-private collaboration to tackle the world’s energy challenges. And earlier that year he served as a consultant to the Presidential Forum on Renewable Energy. In 2009, he was accepted as a member of the British American Project, a group of leaders in the public, private and non-profit sectors who are committed to addressing transatlantic issues. And in 2002, he served as an advisor to the World Economic Forum.
An Independent Fiscal Conservative
Michael Allegretti is an independent, fiscal conservative who has worked to advance the principles of smaller, efficient, common sense government for more than a decade. Allegretti defines himself as an Independent Conservative, who wants to bring jobs back to the 13th district, repeal the recent health care legislation and fight against the terror trials being held in New York. He is a committed fiscal conservative who has a proven ability to forge innovative policy solutions with some of the most important leaders across the country. Whether working as an Associate Director for the 2004 Republican National Convention or a Special Assistant to New York State Senator Marty Golden, Michael has always placed good people before partisan politics. He believes that in order to strengthen our economy and create lasting jobs, we must cut taxes and reduce spending. Only by closing the deficit gap and reducing our debt will our community prosper once again.
Michael Allegretti believes in a better Republican Party. As an active member of the Staten Island and Brooklyn Republican Party organizations, Michael believes that the Republican Party must never become the party of “no,” but instead become the party of “better.” And in 2008, he worked specifically to advance this ideal as one of a select group to serve on the New York State Republican Strategic Planning Commission, an independent statewide initiative aimed at making the Republican Party a more effective engine for positive change.
Deep Roots in Our Community
It is Michael’s family that has played the greatest role in making him a community leader. His late uncle, Victor Allegretti, was a leading supporter of causes such as the American Legion, the Kiwanis, and dozens of Staten Island and Brooklyn based organizations. His late father, Alfred Allegretti, was a hard working entrepreneur who taught Michael that the best way to succeed in business was to provide personal customer service. This lesson is at the core of why Michael believes that speaking directly to voters is so critical. His mother Linda Allegretti, a retired New York City public school teacher, is a community leader who has worked tirelessly to renew a ribbon of decaying parkland along Shore Road, while his brother Vinny and his cousin Fran are active members of the Saint Anselm’s Youth Activities program. So many of his family – from his nieces and nephews to his many cousins – have lived within our community for decades.
Ever active in the community that has shaped his life, Michael has served on the Development Committee of the Federation of Italian-American Organizations, the Advisory Board of the Guild for Exceptional Children, and the sustainability committee of his high school, Poly Prep. He also spent a year teaching non-violent offenders who were slated to be paroled, how to read, write and better interact in their communities. Michael holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and a BA in History from Boston College. Michael was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn which is part of the 13th Congressional District.
